Q&A

1. Colour is not the Answer

Q: My service provider showed me how fluid colour compares to new fluid. Is this sufficient
information for me to make a decision about the need to change or flush any of my car’s fluids?

A: According to AMRA and UICS, the condition of any fluid (particularly motor oil and transmission
fluid) cannot be determined by colour. A true measure of any fluid’s capabilities is based on
the condition of the additive package. Recommendations should only be made on additive
depletion and the effects of contamination. This is why Fluid Rx created its patented radial planner
chromatographic diagnostic technology. It is like having an on-site laboratory analysis that does not
ascertain the result by colour – but by determining the degradation level of the additive package.

2. No Need to Speed Read

Q: After a target on a Fluid Rx test sheet is exposed to any given fluid, how long is the reading good
for?

A: The fluid spot will fade after 30 minutes and no longer resembles the images on the diagnostic
chart. To confirm previous results it is recommended that the test be performed again.

3. One Drop – One Reading

Q: Can a test sheet be reused?

A: Once a test sheet target has been exposed to a fluid, it cannot be used for any other test. On
sheets with multiple targets, the integrity of the unexposed targets is not affected and can be used
at a later time or date.

4. Sample Example

Q: What is it best way to gain a sample of fluids that do not have dipsticks?

A: Samples for power steering and power brake fluids should be retrieved from as close to the
bottom of the reservoir as possible. This is because contaminates are heavier than the base fluid.
This is where the Fluid Rx Dip Clip comes in handy. The Teflon stick easily reaches the bottom of
the reservoir and provides an easy method to collect a sample for the sheet. For the antifreeze/
coolant, the most accurate sample comes by opening the petcock on the lower radiator tank and
exposing the strip to a few drops of fluid. However, since this is usually inconvenient and difficult to
reach, Fluid Rx antifreeze/coolant strips are made to gain a highly accurate reading by removing the
radiator cap from a cold-to-cool engine and dipping the strip into the fluid.

5. Shelf Life

Q: What is the shelf life of the test strips?

A: Test strips in foil packages are guaranteed for 1 year from date of manufacture. Test strips in the
bottle packages are guaranteed to work 2 years from date of manufacture.

Test Strips should be stored at room temperature. Do not store the test strips in direct sun light.
Once the bottle is opened, the bottle should be stored at room temperature with the bottle cap
tightly closed. Avoid handling the test strips with wet and/or oily hands.
